Premier League: GW16 Retrospect

This was a week that I prefer not to provide a retrospect on how my game week 16 squad. While I didn’t get bite by Mo Salah, like many sellers, I moved him ahead of game week 15, but Harry Kane and Leroy Sane were gems that week, so I still come out ahead, even with Mo hitting for the hatty. However, after Liverpool are done with this tough run, I am considering moving the Egyptian back into my squad. That will be discussed further in an upcoming Transfers article.

This week, as I said was for forgettable one, as it was the first on the season where I finished below the average. A weekly score of 45 points was 10 less than the 55 point average, which was moved during the Monday night game, Everton hosting Watford thanks in part to Richarlison and Lucas Digne. Then again, that Richarlison goal should not have been allowed, as Watford got done again by the officiating. On the season I have 953 points, which saw the second red arrow in two weeks, as I plummeted 50k, out of the top 100k to a rank of 130k.

Last week was the first I can remember in which I didn’t need to rely on defense for a good score, as the attacking front line took over. However, it was back to defense to pull me through in GW16, as Anderw Robertson and Virgil van Dijk combined for 17 points. It’s now three assists in three games for the Reds defenders. Marcos Alonso, much talked about during the week remained in my starting XI and picked up a CS against Man City, of all teams.. That meant Aymeric Laporte and Ederson, on the receiving end finished with two points each.

The midfielder struggles continue. Leroy Sane, brought in a week before didn’t score against Chelsea. The pairing of Pascal Groß and Ryan Fraser were shut out as well. Since Callum Wilson was a late scratch, it was Johan Berg Gudmundsson off the bench to shift my formation from a 4-3-3 to a 4-4-2. It really didn’t matter, he picked up three points with a CS against Brighton.

Up front Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was given the armband, partnered with Harry Kane. Big expectations for both turned out to be nothing worthwhile. It was a late Arsenal assist that saw Aubameyang finished on 10 points, but Kane didn’t start, picking up a one point cameo.

It was just a week I will knock off as we look ahead to GW17. I believe I have the right personnel in my 15-man squad, that said I have two free transfers that will most likely be used ahead of the Saturday fixtures. The midfield is still causing me headaches, as Fraser isn’t a regular returner and if my premium blanks, I am screwed. I am exploring possibilities moving forward but at this point I don’t have any concrete ideas on what direction I am going. Decisions will depend on the status of Callum Wilson.
