We’re back, 24 hours later! Academica Vertex. Episode 33 – Top Fidy was a success, however it answered NONE of my question, when Casey, Gabe and I collaborated on how to play the blank game week, while looking ahead to GW32. It took me a bit longer to realize the the Watford game started early and we could know the ramification before the deadline approached for BGW31. That said, I am hold my transfers and starting XI, until very close to the deadline on Saturday.
Ahead of Saturday’s fixtures I hold 2 FTs, since I rolled last week to my season-high of 84 points. While I expected these transfers to come in handy and allow me more freedom to build a stronger BGW31, it’s done nothing but frustrate me all week. I feel there are more teams I don’t want players from, than I want in my starting XI, which in reality will be a maximum of nine.
As I discussed in my Premier League: BGW31 Transfers article yesterday, one transfer is already account for, as Eden Hazard come in and Paul Pobga and his shitty attitude is finally off my starting XI. Hazard will partner with Ryan Fraser and Mo Salah. While I haven’t discussed it much, I am considering using the Triple Captain Chip this week as Liverpool travel to Craven Cottage, as Fulham have conceded 28 goals at home, second worst, just ahead of Cardiff City (31).
Can a case be made for Salah, as he’s in the midst of a goal drought, just one in the last seven games (and only one assist). However, let me spin the underlying stats and see where Mo ends up. In 15 games away from Anfield, Salah leads (midfielders) the league with 115 penalty touches and 7 goals! His 47 touches goal attempts and 35 shots inside the box also top all other midfielders. Let’s not miss the fact he’s had 13 big chances taken.
The league’s leading scorer (203) playing the league’s worst team (Fulham), something needs to give. He’s been very unlucky in this recent stretch. He’s got more consistency than Sadio Mane. His current run is similar to how the season started, with Mane hitting four goals in the first four and Salah “under performing” but it wasn’t long after that Mane went 12 games with only a brace.
The double game weeks aren’t an option for me to activate the Triple Captain Chip, as I will be using either the Free Hit Chip or the Wild Card in either GW32 or GW35. The other double will allow me to activate the Bench Boost Chip, so where does the Triple Captain Chip fall? Already considering Salah, this week at Fulham, but are there other options (not taking into account games that will be rescheduled)?
- GW33 Eden Hazard (CHE) vs West Ham
- GW33 Sergio Aguero (MCI) vs Cardiff City
- GW33 Raheem Sterling (MCI) vs Cardiff City
- GW34 Harry Kane (TOT) vs Huddersfield
- GW36 Mo Salah (LIV) vs Huddersfield
Some good options upcoming, but this could be an opportunity to capitalize on a game week that should be a low scoring game week, allowing you to make big gains in the overall ranking or mini-leagues.
The second transfer has come down to three players; Manuel Lanzini, David Brooks and Miguel Almiron. That decision to made during the Watford vs Crystal Palace game.
Up front I start Jamie Vardy, Salomon Rondon and Josh King. Outside of the King, Vardy and Rondon are in good form. Vardy redeemed his 1 shot performance two weeks ago with a brace last week and expect him to add to his total this week. King is a bit of a risk with Wilson back, we saw it last weekend. However, King was more involved on he pitch than King, the statistic reflect that, but it was Wilson with the attack return.
After last week, I feel strong going into BGW31 without a full starting XI. Of all the defenders, I feel I have the best in Andrew Robertson and Virgil van Dijk. Running without a GK of a third defender doesn’t concern me at this point, as I will throw both FTs into the attack this week.
Expecting another score above the average and recording back to back green and climb in the OR. Good luck to all FPL managers this week.
