Premier League: GW38 Retrospect

The final week of the season and I watched nothing. Pulled up the Premier League website to see some scores at halftime, but put no effort into watching the last round of games. Guess this is what I get for putting very little effort into the final week. It has been a frustrating end to an otherwise good FPL season, in which I finished with my best OR, most points scored and an average weekly score of 61.39 PPG!

With all the games being played Sunday, I held my transfer(s) until Saturday night. In a partial drunken stupor I took a hit to move out Fernando Llorente and Heung-min Son for Gylfi Sigurdsson and Ayoze Perez. It was a four point hit and maybe I expected a bit more then what I ended with, but I can’t be upset that the two players I brought in combined for 19 points.

Outside of Angus Gunn, my defense keyed by team, 12 points from the duo of Andrew Robertson and Virgil van Dijk, who both outscore EVERY forward this season! Aymeric Laporte finished with eight points, as he scored his third goal on the season.

The midfield was very disappointing, Luca Milivojevic, who went scoreless in his last three combined with that so-called world’s best midfielder, in Paul Pogba for two points. Mo Salah was “No Salah” with three points, while Sigurdsson and Raheem Sterling each picked up five points. This position was my Achilles heel all season long.

Up front, I took a punt on Perez, gave him the armband and was rewarded with 14 points. Raul Jimenez was a bust for me, I know I am in the minority, but I don’t think I got many attacking points off the Mexican, just owned him at the wrong time of the season to benefit from his red hot form.

In the end I end with 53 points on the week, which was two above the weekly average of 51 points, but the 4-point hit hurt me and I dropped 7k finished at 31k on the season. That’s four out of five red arrows to finish the season. I finished on 2333 points, 160 points more then I ever scored and a 61 PPG average, which is incredible! If I could take that output each year I would.
