Coming out of the break my 5-man defensive team has two free transfers to potentially use. This team is…different, three green arrows just 216 points and a OR of 1.7 million. They picked up 63 points in the last game week and I am hoping that can spawn something in this squad. It’s been two weeks over 60 points, but two weeks in the 40-something range. I head into this transfer period with just £0.1 ITB and decisions to be made with a perennial favorite at the back, Man City.
Currently I am fielding five of the highest owned players in the top 1k including Luca Digne 23.1%) , Andrew Robertson (27.4%), Mo Salah (76.6), James Rodriguez (36.4%) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (56.2%). The player in question ahead of the game week, what to do with Raul Jimenez? He played 77 minutes against the Netherlands and picked up a goal and 90 minutes in a 2-2 draw against Algeria. No doubt he will be fit, as Wolves play on Monday, the final game of GW5.
His numbers are a bit weak compared to other forwards, just five shots, two of which on target over the last two weeks with no goals scored. Wolves have scored just three goals on the season and Jimenez has two of them. This week they travel to Elland Road and a date with Leeds United have conceded eight on the season. There SHOULD be goals incoming for Wolves, but is Jimenez the best option going forward?
Brighton have some good fixtures over the next four weeks and Neal Maupay is on my radar. At £6.6 he would give me £2.0 to use on an additional transfer. Maupay has “key stats” on his side having doubled up Jimenez on points (32) and goals (4). Brighton plays cry/WBA/tot/BUR while Wolves play lee/NEW/CRY/lei. I see goals in all these games from both players but still feel Wolves have more to offer at the attacking end, led by Jimenez.
If both transfers are used, then I turn to the midfield with that additional budget ITB to upgrade one of my two, £4.5 midfielders (Alzate or Anguissa). There are a number of options available; Jorginho, Fornals and Trossard, but none of them would start, so it would be a wasted transfer. In fact I am still looking to chop and change the defense, but thinking I won’t double up on City until GW10, meaning I run with the same five I have now in Digne, Robertson, Alexander-Arnold and Semedo.
The only concern is DB, still flagged, but understand that coming off early was seen as a “precaution” and he could potentially start on weekend. He too, has been off his game with no returns since their first game and his number well down. Just how bad does City need Aguero or Jesus? Right now I am pleased with this team, as the three green arrows give me a bit of a boost that I am doing something right when it comes to team selection. However, we still haven’t seen the best from team defenses through four weeks of play, so there could be some bigger weeks coming with a 5-man defense. Worst case, I make no changes and waste a transfer since it would go unused.
