Does it matter? No, really? At this point I’ve already taken a -8 point hit for game week 6, we still have no clear sign of what will come out of Pep’s pie hole regarding Kevin De Bruyne. Now, days after the Merseyside Derby, FPL managers get word that James Rodriguez is injured and won’t play for Everton. I’ve already had to resolve the loss of Virgil van Dijk due to injury, swap Dominic Calvert-Lewin for the stupid cunt, Richarlison and dumped Raul Jimenez because Wolves look pretty damn lethargic in attack, regardless of his goal against Leeds on Monday. VAPM Update: GW5
It will probably require much of the season to see if crunching the numbers in order to generate a baseline figure for VAPM will provide any advantage during the FPL season. This year, more than the previous two seasons, I’ve started using the ‘value added per million’ (VAPM) of 0.35 as a baseline for players in my squad. By no means will it guarantee a successful season, but it’s my hope that using this data in order to get a number to base player decisions around could improve the “total immediate points gained from transfers” as tracked using FPL Statistico. Think Different: 5-Man Defense GW5 Retrospect
It feels as if I am living in DC Comics, fictional, Bizarro World (Htrae), which in popular culture has come to represent a situation or setting which is weirdly inverted or opposite to expectations. Take my first ever attempt to field a 5-man defense, over a 38 weeks Premier League schedule in a season where clean sheets are down and goals are up. Right there, it’s got the making for something that resembles a horror movie, fitting as we are nearing the end of October and Halloween is right around the corner. Who knows, maybe a “Freddie” or “Jason” could potentially carved up some points for my starting I. Continue reading “Think Different: 5-Man Defense GW5 Retrospect”
2020/21 Premier League: GW5 Retrospect
While holding the wild card for the sole purpose of exiting the first international break would have been a wise decision, it was somewhat surprising to see just over 8% of managers across FPL decided to active it, that was a percentage point less than those who activated it in GW3. What does that mean? Oh, probably not a whole hell of a lot, but based on Twitter you would have thought there were more FPL managers on their wild card. Goes to prove that Twitter isnt’ necessarily the movers and shakers some take it to be. As for game week five, can we just look ahead to next weekend? 2020/21 FPL GW5 Starting XI
Is this the week it really starts to go all wrong for my squad? Out of the break I thought I was fine, but Pep, talking as if KDB won’t be around for some games in the coming weeks and I am reconsidering my position, as I don’t want to fall further behind in some important mini leagues I’m involved in. Rest assured that Son’s ownership skyrockets this week as MANY managers move off the City midfielder and to the Spurs, but is that the right move or a trap for a one or two week punt? Continue reading “2020/21 FPL GW5 Starting XI”
Think Different: GW6 5-Man Defense Starting XI
Everything appeared to be going well over the break, taking time away from the FPL game to relax and not worry about who to captain or what transfer to make. Then we got word that KDB came off as “a precautionary change.” Still being assessed he could be a game time decision. On Wednesday, it was Luca Digne coming off during France’s match with Croatia in the 83′ minute. Thankfully I do have two free transfers to use as I look to the best options to resolve some player issues. As it stands now, I don’t plan on shipping KDB, he will make the starting XI, but have an alternative if he doesn’t get any minutes. Continue reading “Think Different: GW6 5-Man Defense Starting XI”
Think Different: GW5 Transfers
Coming out of the break my 5-man defensive team has two free transfers to potentially use. This team is…different, three green arrows just 216 points and a OR of 1.7 million. They picked up 63 points in the last game week and I am hoping that can spawn something in this squad. It’s been two weeks over 60 points, but two weeks in the 40-something range. I head into this transfer period with just £0.1 ITB and decisions to be made with a perennial favorite at the back, Man City. Continue reading “Think Different: GW5 Transfers”
2020/21 FPL: GW5 Transfers
Coming out of the first international break of the Premier League season and based on what I see on Twitter, there are quite a few who have activated their wild card, looking to increase their budgets with some prices rises, while looking to add talent to their squad. In fact, it’s looking a bit “template” like. For me, I hit the button ahead of GW3, which has been a trend the last three season. Ask me if I am happy with my team and I think it’s good but as we have seen some players haven’t been playing to their potential. Now managers look to tweak and transfer ahead of GW5. So where do we look? Continue reading “2020/21 FPL: GW5 Transfers”
VAPM Starting XI
Yesterday I compiled the statistics from the first four weeks of the Premier League season to calculate the current VAPM for FPL purposes. In order to shorten the list I’ve used the minimum of 180 minutes played and four points scored. Early in the season, VAPM is inflated. It’s not common to have a players over 1.00, let alone over 0.50 on the season. Early season success for teams have seen players from Aston Villa and West Ham United topping the list. While players like Mo Salah, Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy, while popular among FPL managers haven’t faired as well because of their premium prices. This article will highlight a fictitious starting XI using the average FPL team value of £100.2 (courtesy of Fantasy Football Fix). Continue reading “VAPM Starting XI”
Think Different: 5-Man Defense GW4
Clean sheets this season seem to be a rarity, even though we saw four more bringing the season total to 17 across the league. That is one fewer than last season (18) and three off the start of the 2018/19 (20). Numbers are fairly consistent over this time frame, even though Liverpool stand out with three clean sheets to open the 18/19 season. Never did I think I would see Aston Villa, Southampton and West Ham each on two cleans to start this season. Intentions going in this season was to buy “big at the back” but that seems to be a bit of a determent at the moment. Defensive points have been very difficult to come by, as witnessed by game week four, as my squad has posted just six clean sheets by my defenders. 2020/21 Premier League: GW4 Retrospect
What the hell is going on with the early part of this season? It feels as if the shortened offseason has caused more trouble than three months during last season. This is like living on Bizzaro World, where you can throw logical, form and FDR out, opting to throw darts are your weekly starting players. I reckon I would of had a better score had I done that. The final week before two weeks off and the international break, which could provide more problems with virus related issues that worth. It was a weekend that could have been so much more but maybe creativity got the best of me.
